NAQT Nationwide Tournament Day

NAQT is pleased to announce that it is creating a
new event for the 2001-2002 competition year. On
March 2, 2002 NAQT will make its Invitational Series
#29 available for hosting high school tournaments as
part of Nationwide Tournament Day.

The purpose
of this day is to encourage newer programs, programs
that haven't hosted before, and regional or county
leagues to run events using NAQT questions. We hope that
this will result in a large number of tournaments,
many of which may be smaller than the average high
school tournament that has used NAQT questions in the
past. Because of this, the fee structure for licensing
questions for Nationwide Tournament Day is different than
for other invitationals: Hosts will pay only $10.00
per team for access to the packets. Usually packet
sets cost a flat fee of $300 regardless of the size of
the tournament.

Like other tournaments using
NAQT questions, these tournaments' top teams will
qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship
Tournament (HS NCT) in June. The precise number that qualify
depend on whether the tournament is an official or
unofficial NAQT event. Offical events are those that use
NAQT's rules for gameplay and
eligibility.

Finally, NAQT's traditional state-based exclusivity does
not apply to these tournaments; we hope to see many
events per state catering to more localized clientele:
league play, conference meets, intracity tournaments,
and so forth.

NAQT also plans to collect
statistics from the official tournaments and create national
rankings of the teams involved using the same algorithms
that it uses for collegiate events. This will give
teams a chance to see how they stack up against the
best that other regions have to offer.
