For those of you who are looking for loved ones,
in New York City, DC, or elsewhere, try to avoid
making phone calls to NYC if you can. E-mail seems to be
working well; phone calls to friends and family outside
the NYC also are more likely to go through.
I
can only offer my prayers for those of you still in
doubt, and my deepest condolences to anyone who has
suffered a loss.
Finally, while I would not expect
any of you to do otherwise, I would urge all of you
to do your best to stay calm, and to calm those
around you. The goal of terrorism is not merely physical
damage, but to instill fear, terror, and emotional damage
as well. We cannot undo the havoc that has already
been wreaked on our soil, but we can prevent things
from spiraling out of control
afterwards.
