Re: Reacting to Reactions

It's an insult to those who were that close."

I
think in a time such as this we all deserve prayers and
thoughts. I cannot imagine what it must have been like to
have been two feet, two blocks, or two miles away. Two
miles is still too close in my opinion. Any distance
seems too close. It was a huge relief to see that
Hayden and so many of my former classmates and friends
were ok (and very sad to discover some were not).

I can easily guess how Andy felt, though I was
nowhere near as close as him. I am over 800 miles away
from NYC, 700 to VA, and I was getting ready to herd
my five year olds into a closet and onto the floor
as soon as I got the signal. Many parents raced in
to school to grab their children and hug them close.
Their fear was real, even though Chicago was not in any
danger after all.

Someone being scared and hoping
we all think good thoughts and pray for each other
does not diminish the thoughts we may have for someone
else. We should all be honest, but I am hoping Andy
overstated his nearness out of a emotional reaction, to
which we were all entitled.

I am hoping that
everyone is healthy and safe.

Take care.
Alexis
