Extracurricular Activities

This is slightly off topic, but I think the
members of this club represent a pretty highly
intelligent, thoughtful, academically successful group, and
those are some of the qualities I would like for my
students to have.

Next month I get to start a new
extracurricular activity at my school, probably targeting grades
3-8. My school is in the heart of Chicago, and we
don't have a whole lot of funds. We currently have no
clubs besides basketball. Last year the main club I ran
was drama, though there was also student government,
and a small math club. We are without a theater or
lights for drama this year, so I am looking for another
idea.

This is my question: what clubs helped you to develop
the most in middle school? Are there any clubs which
stick with you? Any kind of trivia club is really out
of the question for this year, but anything else
(including sports) *might* be possible.

Thank you for
any suggestions!
