Duke Academic Festival 2002 announcement

The Duke University Academic Team invites all
interested high school academic teams to compete at the 10th
anniversary of the Duke Academic Festival, scheduled for
Saturday, February 16, 2002.

This serves as a
preliminary announcement. We are currently planning for a
field of 32 teams, though if there is overwhelming
interest, we may look to expand the field up to 48. I am
requesting early pre-registration by January 1, limiting
each school request to two teams.

As we have
traditionally done, games will be played in modified
four-section format, with all questions written in-house.
Academic subjects will be covered, with a minor nod to
popular culture and sports. The major change to our game
format this year as opposed to previous years: the
category lightning rounds will be replaced by a worksheet
round.

In-game substitutions will NOT be allowed, but teams are
allowed to bring as many as two alternates with each
four-person team. We will strive to schedule for each team at
least five preliminary matches before
playoffs.

The top two teams (four if the field goes above 40)
will receive automatic bids to compete at the PACE
National Scholastics Championship, held June 15-17 weekend
at George Washington University, Washington
DC.

before January 1)
$75 each additional team ($65 for
SECOND team only if notify before January 1)

celebration of our tournament's 10th
anniversary!

Sincerely,
Emil Thomas Chuck, Ph.D.
