"Best Players" rubrick

I'm not much of a mathematician, but I've been
toying around with what a mathematical calculation might
be to determine whom the top 200 or so players in
the country are. My thinking (which will undoubtedly
need some tweaking by those who understand stats far
better than I do) goes something like this:

This
calculation must be somewhat analogous to a QB rating in
football -- keeping in mind somehow:

--points per
toss-up heard
--number of matches played
--RPI of
opponents
--ppg of teammates

Can anyone come up with
something suitable? I'd be more than willing to do the math
on it to create a large list, given a correct
formula (which I have NO IDEA how to create).

I'll
bet this has been tried before, but maybe there's a
way to do it if we look hard enough.

If there
are any thoughts, reply here. If not, then perhaps
I'm again in the running for one of Edmund's
end-of-the-year Bonehead Awards or whatever they were. Hell, I
wasn't offended by them. But then, I just barely made
the top 10 last year. :)
