Re: Trash Junior Birds

>Are there enough novices to form a big enough
tournament field?

This particular question Charlie
posted triggered my own musings on TRASH and new quiz
bowlers in general. A quick caveat, I have never played
at any TRASH event and definately would not be in
much of a position to contribute to any such event. My
personal pet project at Iowa State is recruiting, and
every year I see well over 50% of interested people
scared off. I sometimes wonder if some of those people
would be interested in TRASH. But it seems logical to
me those most interested in a TRASH competition
would be least likely to stick around for the academic
competitions. Are there enough people at most universities to
field a TRASH team? Yes. Are they necessarily in a quiz
club? Probably not.

I've also been kicking an
idea around for an IM TRASH tournament at our school.
However, in my 'uneducated' opinion that most TRASH rounds
are harder than suitable for a bunch of once-a-year
players. I would of course, be loved to be proven wrong on
this.
