Re: Illinois Novice 2001 Final Results

I'll get to my comments on the tournament in a
moment, but I have a results question first. Wash U Y.
County beat Michigan B in the first round of the day.
Thus, shouldn't we have ended up 8th? Thanks for
checking, Mike and/or Dom.

Now, I wanted to
compliment the team at Illinois for a good job running the
tournament. The moderators were generally competent and did a
good job reading. As DePauw mentioned earlier, their
packets were screwed up and we had to play them on a
backup packet, but that didn't really cause a problem at
all. The packets were well written/edited and at an
accessible difficulty level for this tournament. I would
have preferred more sports/current events/pop culture,
but that's just me! Congratulations to Michigan A for
winning the tournament.

My one complaint has to
deal with the U of Illinois team that was playing in
the tournament. They were very good and I was
impressed with that; however, their attitude was just
intolerable. We hung in there for half the match, but they
just had a little too much for us at the end. They
didn't stop talking once throughout the match so it was
hard to hear, especially on our bonuses. However, the
most prevelant problem came with Sudheer. He seemed to
like his status as one of the people in the running
for the neg title, so after they clinched the match,
he made a big deal about trying to neg on questions
to help his stats in that category. I just found
that disrepectful to us, the other team, and I didn't
really think it was necessary. Just play the game. Also,
it would have been nice if they weren't so cocky and
were just quiet throughout the match, just like
everyone else at the tournament was.

However, that
said, I had a good time at the tournament. Thanks to
Dom, Adam, Mike, et al. for running an excellent
tournament! It was nice to see some people that I hadn't
played against since high school, but will now see more
regularly on the circuit. I would look forward to coming
back next year, but then again, I'm a sophomore.
Thanks for checking on the results.
