 Thanks for your opinion. I am also a
history grad student, and while I certainly don't want to
see lots of unanswerable questions about historians,
I think an occasional tossup and a couple bonus
parts per tournament would be good. Like I said before,
some of these would replace some of the semi-historian
questions out there now. Personally I think Peter Brown is
quite gettable, and Natalie Z. Davis even more so since
they did make a movie out of Return of Martin Guerre.
In general, I think there are some really obscure
history questions out there which aren't any better than
questions on historians, and in the other social sciences
we tend to focus on practitioners, so why not the
occasional historian q?

I do agree with you about
Foucault transcending any particular field, and don't have
a problem with questions on him, just meant it
isn't really history. In regard to Ambrose, and
Schlesinger, for that matter, after some thought I will
moderate my stance somewhat, and say it depends on how
trashy or unrelated to the guy's actual career the q
is.
