Re: Plagarism and Question Sources

<< I would like to respond to Dr. Chuck's
statement that, "I do think that not too many high school
coaches out there really care about this issue . . . even
some of the best coaches out there." I don't think
that statement really holds true. I know for a fact
that there are many high school coaches out there who
have justifiably long standing feueds with C. Beall
because of all the b.s. involved in his high school
tournments. I think some of them would be further angered to
find out that he was selling them "hot" questions.

I have yet to see that happen. Those that Chip
Beall has pissed off he has done so for completely
different reasons, and I would suspect he would just as
well consider them lost causes. Regardless of that I
know that coaches will still go to Chip's tournament,
even in light of this knowledge, simply because they
"have a good time at his tournaments." (Matt, put down
the bazooka, I'm only telling you what people have
told me.) Unless a game is decided by a final question
that is lifted from the archive (and who knows whether
tha's already happened), and someone challenges the
question solely on that basis, I don't see any coach out
there pulling their teams.

The information about
the alleged (since I still have to use this term)
plagiarism has been out there for more than 2 years, yet
certain teams are still going due to some loyalty to that
tournament. Even coaches who have colleagues who spurn Chip's
tournament vehemently to their dying last breath will still
go. I mean, if Hodges Lewis [Irmo coach], Jim Garrick
[former Dorman coach] or Dorothy Meek [James Island]
still goes to Chip's tournament even if Carlotta Wright
[Riverdale] and Rick Barry [Brookwood] says Chip's full of
plagiarized crap (which those who know Rick can see him say
that), what makes anyone think a letter or a paper on
all the incidents of plagiarism Chip has committed
over the last 4 years would make a difference? Believe
me, I've mentioned this to other coaches and they
remain undaunted for whatever reason.

Every year
even since the plagiarism revelations and a few teams
dropping for whatever reason, Chip fills all 48 slots in
New Orleans and 56 slots at Marymount and has a few
left over for a California trip. That to me tells me
most coaches don't care about that when it comes to
choosing their hs national that they want to attend.
