Re: Diagnostic test

I think the more interesting (and valid) question
is how many quizbowlers have diagnosed Autistic
siblings (or other relatives)? >>

Me. I'm
self-diagnosed as Asperger's Syndrome: I learned about it almost
three years ago, and read the symptoms and some
testimonies from diagnosed Aspies, and said "Damn, that's
me!" Honestly it's refreshing to have a name for why
I've been different all my life. I got a 42 (Heh --
top THAT if you can! The fact that I outscore many
distinguished quizbowlers gives me further reason to believe
that my diagnosis is correct.) on the diagnostic test,
though it started a discussion on two of the AS lists
I'm on about its validity: "somewhat agree" and
"strongly agree" are scored the same, and if you've read
the list of diagnostic criteria for AS, some of the
questions are pretty darn obvious as far as which way an
Aspie is "supposed" to answer.

A funny thing is
that my older brother was diagnosed with Asperger's by
a real live psychologist last summer; his wife had
been investigating it completely independently of me.
Now my mother thinks that AS might be the explanation
for why her mother (deceased '85, I didn't know her
well) had emotional problems throughout life.

Yep, I'm back in the club. I'll see some of you at
MLK/ABD.
