I don't see why quiz bowl should really be viewed
any differently. In high school my team lost alot of
tournaments where I felt we were the best team, but I am
still a fan of single elim.
I wholeheartedly
agree. It seems to me that the best team should be able
to rise to the occasion at least once, if not two or
three times, en route to winning a title...and if they
can't win a single-elim final, then they're not really
the best team. Of course, this is all theoretical,
and it assumes well-written and well-balanced
questions, which is simply not always the case. If there's
too much sentiment against single-elim, play a best 2
of 3 final, if for no other reason than out of
respect to the supposed 2nd best team there that had to
win its fair share of games to be there,
too.
And to all who were at the HSNCT last year---wouldn't
you have loved to see a third, winner-take-all,
game?
