I'm not an expert on the issue, but something I
would suggest is that you always maintain respect for
your players, and never forget that it's ultimately
supposed to be fun for everyone involved. As a moderator,
I've encountered coaches who've made *me* feel
uncomfortable, so I can't imagine what it would have been like
to have been one of the players on the
team.
Anyway, that would be my suggestion. Coaching quiz bowl
isn't like coaching football, and I'd hypothesize that
most of your better players are going to be really
sensitive to being screamed at.
More power to you,
though, for getting together a team. I probably would
never have gotten involved in college if I hadn't had
pleasant experiences in high school.
