Re: QB Community Participation and Race

I'm also from D.C. and played in high school.. I
remember "It's Academic" as being primarily caucasian.. My
team was entirely caucasian (except for the late 80's
and late 90's when my sister and I were on the
team).. Once, we played against a team with an Asian
girl, but all the rest (in all rounds) were definitely
NOT diverse.

Banneker used to hold an annual
tournament and even there it was predominatly caucasian- but
then again, it IS Northwest.

I'm inclined to
agree with Tim on the lack of interest.. But as far as
trying to be "non-western" inclusive, I'd still be doing
this if there weren't Indian history/religion
questions. Also, where did many of us come from? Doing it in
high school. For my school it was a huge source of
school pride and we were *actually* popular in the weeks
following wins. But if you don't have that sort of impetus,
then maybe it's not appealing.

While we're on
the topic of race, why not jump to sex? Less so than
once upon a time, QB remains very male.
