As a fellow "pretty good" freshman, I understand and sympathize with your point-of-view. I hate losing just as much as you do, if not more. But the most important thing that my older teammates have told me is that, as a developing player, I shouldn't worry so much about winning as I should about getting better. I've already managed to beat a few teams with post-grads (trust me, that felt good), and in a few years, I'll be good enough and experienced enough to dish it out to the rest of the circuit. Also, it's important to recognize just how important grad students are to college quiz bowl. The grad students on my team have given me very good advice on many subjects, including getting better at QB. Also, for example, look at Kelly Mackenzie, Zeke Berdichevsky, and Roger Bhan. Each one has volunteered an *enormous* amount of time to edit and organize ACF tournaments. Do you realize just how long it takes to read through 20 or 25 packets, send back bad questions, edit some, and write new ones? So please, just realize that grad students are an invaluable part of college quiz bowl, and while losing hurts, I'm sure you'll feel good in two or three years when you're good enough to beat them.
