Certainly there _are_ questions
that suck in CBI (and occasionally in other formats
too) and yes, all multiple-choice tossups are among
those questions. However, I think over the 6 years that
I have played CBI the questions have gotten
immeasurably better and the vast majority of them this past
weekend were decent questions.
In the interest of
full disclosure, I personally like CBI because I like
trivia, which, I know, is looked down upon by many
members of this community. (At Arkansas, it also is the
only tournament that the university pays for, and
since they are never going to give us that money to do
with as we choose, we will continue to accept their
generosity and go to CBI) However, even if you dislike the
subject matter CBI uses, I think it would be difficult to
argue that the structure and most of the content of
their questions have improved greatly. I still don't
like the overabundance of officials and some of the
weird rules, but that's a minor annoyance most of the
time.
