The 4th Annual March Madness

With March just around the corner, it's time to
capture the true spirit of the NCAAs (something we do on
a semi-regular basis at Duke) and start up the
fourth annual Quizbowl March Madness!

The rules:
when each round is announced, you have until I say so
to send an email to the address I've set up (
qb_madness_at_... ) and vote on a winner of each game. In a change
from last year that will both make things more fun and
prevent ballot-stuffing, for each game, one ballot will
be selected at random, and its vote will determine
the winner. This will continue for all six rounds,
until someone is crowned the March Madness
champion.

(For those wondering about last year, I stopped the
tournament when it became obvious that ballot-stuffing was a
problem. Florida was declared the winner to placate them.
I hope the new process will make things run
smoother.)

Now, so that our friends at places like Chicago, Case,
and Canada are satisfied, I have torn up the old
blueprint of conferences and created my own with QB powers,
CBI teams, and people I wish would form teams. In
each conference, people run a double-RR for the league
unless otherwise noted. This is of course followed by an
all-in SE tournament. For everyone out there, your
mission is to send an email to the above address and
indicate which team receives/deserves the automatic bid
for their conference. You have until 2/26/02
(Tuesday) at 5:59:59 PM as indicated by the timestamp on
the email. All later votes will be laughed at. So
there.

The conferences will be listed in my next
post.
