NAQT ICT General Info (Update) Part I

OK, now that most of the final acceptances for
NAQT ICT are in, I figured it'd be good to do an
update on my earlier posting about the ICT. The
information contained here (along with some other stuff),
will be put up on a webpage within the next week and
will also be emailed to all the teams invited once
those list are finalized.
Suggestions for
inclusions on the webpage are welcome (either email me or
post here)

Congratulations to everyone who
qualified for the ICT. I'm assuming that all of you who
qualified now want to know some general info about
transportation, hotels, etc.

As you all know, the ICT
will be held April 5-6 at the beautiful "Southern part
of heaven," otherwise
known as the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. To orient everybody,
that's about 10 miles from Durham and 20 from Raleigh,
near the intersection of I-85 and I-40. While it
likely doesn't concern anyone for the time being, I will
post a couple links to campus maps here (also on the
Maize Pages):

<a href=http://www.unc.edu/depts/visitor/mapprint/index.html target=new>http://www.unc.edu/depts/visitor/mapprint/index.html</a>

<a href=http://main.psafety.unc.edu/tp/lotmap/mastermap.htm target=new>http://main.psafety.unc.edu/tp/lotmap/mastermap.htm</a>

Building locations, etc. have been finalized, but I'll
post those as we get closer to the date.

For
those of you who have to fly here, the nearest major
airport is Raleigh-Durham International
Airport
(<a href=http://www.rdu.com/ target=new>http://www.rdu.com/</a>), located about 20-25 minutes from campus.
Practically every major US airline serves the airport, though
American and US Air are the biggest entities.
Alternatively, you could go to the Piedmont Triad International
Airport, near Greensboro (<a href=http://www.ptia.org/ target=new>http://www.ptia.org/</a>), which is
about 1 hour from campus, or even fly into Charlotte
and make the 3-4 hour drive to Chapel Hill (the
biggest airport in NC and it might be significantly
cheaper).

To get from the Raleigh-Durham airport to
campus or a hotel you can either take a cab (about
$20-30), a shuttle (~$15 a person), or rent a car.

Discounts on both car rental and airfares have been
arranged via NAQT. Information on this can be found
at
<a href=http://www.naqt.com/ict/2002/2002-ict-information.html target=new>http://www.naqt.com/ict/2002/2002-ict-information.html</a>

That brings me to the hotel situation, which
unfortunately is not optimum. The only hotel within walking
distance of campus is the Carolina Inn, which you could
book potentially, though the only vacancies appear to
be for single rooms (i.e. 1 double bed) that go for
anywhere from $71 to $237 a night. After that, there are a
bunch of hotels about 2-3 miles from campus, located
either on NC-54 or US 15-501, the two main roads into
Chapel Hill. In order of distance from campus (though
they are all right together more or less), these are
the Best Western University Inn, Days Inn, Hampton
Inn, Red Roof Inn, and Sheraton. These all vary in
price, but all run between $60 and $90 a night. The best
bets here seem to be the Days Inn and Hampton Inn,
though they all are good. For those who want a
suites-style hotel, the closest one is the Homewood Suites
(just past the Red Roof Inn, next to I-40). Rooms here
run from $85 to 140). A cheaper alternative might be
to get a hotel somewhere along the I-40 corridor.
All sorts of hotels
can be found there, often for
even cheaper prices. When we make a webpage, we'll go
into a little more detail on this, but if you have
questions about any particular hotel or want further
recommendations, feel free to email (address in next
post).

Here's a couple good webpages full of hotels in and
around Chapel Hill and
