ACF Nationals 2002: Congratulations and Thanks

Hi, all.

The 2002 edition of ACF Nationals was hosted by The George Washington
University (held at the University of Maryland-College Park) on April
20.

This year's ACF champion is the University of Michigan A, consisting
of Ezequiel Berdichevsky, Ben Heller, Adam Kemezis, and Paul Litvak.
The second-place award was given to the University of Kentucky,
consisting of Seth Kendall, Kelly McKenzie, Robert Osborne, and Steve
(sincerest apologies for not catching the last name). Michigan A
secured the championship by defeating Kentucky 320-210 in a very
impressive final match. Congratulations to both of these stellar
teams.

The top three individual scorers were John Kenney from the University
of Virginia, Matt Weiner from the University of Pittsburgh, and Raj
Dhuwalia from Florida Atlantic University. Congratulations to these
individuals, as well.

Full statistics will be posted shortly by the tournament host.

Many thanks go to the following people for their help with
writing/editing the questions: David Goodman, David Hamilton, Andrew
Yaphe, Ken Mitchell, Stephanie Walker, Suzy Rivoire, Grant
Gavranovic, Ross Ritterman, Tim Young, Edmund Schluessel, and Bryce
Avery.

Thanks also to everyone that volunteered to staff the tournament.
The readers were all excellent to my knowledge and the presence of
some scorekeepers greatly facilitated things.

I would like to give special thanks to Edmund Schluessel for his
tremendous organizational efforts, and to Tim Young for his
format/scheduling genius. The tournament ran very smoothly because
of these two individuals, and the few problems that did occur were
efficiently solved. Also, special thanks to the fine folks at the
University of Maryland-College Park for providing us with a
tournament site at the last minute.

Finally, thanks to all the teams that attended. I hope everyone had
fun and I hope to see you all at next year's series of ACF
tournaments.

If you have any praise or criticism whatsoever regarding this year's
ACF Nationals, please feel free to either post your message to this
forum or send me an e-mail at rsbhan_at_.... I have already
received lots of commentary and I plan on addressing it all in the
near future.

I have a lot more to say, but I'll do so in separate messages during
the course of the week. That's all for now. I hope everyone had a
good academic year. See you all at the summer tournaments.
