Kidder Cup: Potential Problem/Solution

Forgive me for using such a public forum to conduct this conversation in, but I
needed to hit as many people who are coming as quickly as possible.

With 17 people registered to the Kidder Cup, there is pretty much no way in which
we could play a full round robin, and full playoffs without basically being there
until Tuesday morning (OK, not quite, it would just feel that way)...or so I
thought. I know there are people who are less than enthused at the idea of not
getting to play everyone else.

So, the idea was suggested to me that we COULD play a full round robin if people
are willing to play shorter games. Instead of a 16-minute game, perhaps a 12 or
13 minute game. This would add up to time savings that would allow us to play a
full round robin, make sure every one heard everyone else's packet, and still be
done at a reasonable hour. Playoff games would be full 16 minute games, though
that is negoitable as well. The other kicker is that people would not have to
write as many questions, you could trim 20% off your packet by this formula
(thanks to Mike Burger for the suggestion)

Old/New
   8/6 Lit
   8/6 History
   9/7 Science
   6/5 Current Events
   7/5 Fine Arts
   8/6 Geography/Soc Sci.
   6/5 Mythology/Religion
   6/5 Pop Culture
   2/2 General Knowledge
   0/1 Wild Card
  60/48

The core essence of the packet remains the same, just in a shorter version.

So here's what I need from participants (and participants only please).
Send me an email at cdbarker_at_... telling me if you would rather have a
partial round robin with a divisional split after 8 games, play the other side,
and then move into playoffs, or if you're willing to play the shorter games for
the full round robin. I will keep voting open until Thursday, May 23, 2002
around 8:00 pm EDT. Majority rules. Also, if we have three or more people drop,
this issue may become moot. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me
know. But basically, speak now or forever hold your peace.
