NAQT 2003 HSNCT Host Call

National Academic Quiz Tournaments, LLC, is pleased to announce that
it is now accepting bids from colleges, high schools, and other
institutions to host the High School National Championship Tournament
(HS NCT) in the 2002-2003 competition year.

The HS NCT will be held either the weekend of May 31-June 1, 2003 or
the weekend of June 7-8, 2003 (Saturday/Sunday). Interested hosts
should e-mail hosting_at_... by August 15, 2002, to indicate their
desire to host and indicate which of the two weekends is preferable
for them.

Factors that NAQT will consider in making the decision include:

* Enthusiasm of the club and its institution
* Experience of the club and its institution
* Availability of moderators, scorekeepers, and other officials in
the area. HS NCT hosts are required to provide a total of 25 trained
moderators or scorekeepers, but more are always welcome.
* Availability of convenient buildings; preferably the entire
tournament (approximately 64 teams) would be held in a single
building.
* Additionally, the ideal building would be lockable overnight,
have a convenient auditorium, and an Internet connection.
* Proximity to a major airport
* Availability and convenience of hotel rooms
* Availability of nearby attractions

The application to host must be made by a team member or advisor who
plans on remaining with the host institution throughout the 2002-2003
competition year and who intends to take an active role in the
planning and execution of the event.

The institution must provide postal, phone, and e-mail contact
information for two representatives (faculty or student) who will be
involved with running the tournament.

Unlike State Championship Tournaments and other high school events
using NAQT questions, which are run primarily by the hosts, the HS
NCT is directed by NAQT personnel with the assistance of the host
club and institution.

Hosting the HS NCT does not provide a high school host with an
automatic berth in the tournament.

The host may expect a field of between 60 and 70 teams and should be
prepared to run 30 to 35 rooms simultaneously with several others
available as statistics rooms or backups. The host club or
institution will receive $20 per team in attendance. In addition,
the host club will receive $50 for each trained staff member
(moderator or scorekeeper) provided in excess of the minimum of 25
(up to a maximum of 25 additional staff for $1,250).

The host club or institution will be expected to deal with room
reservations, evaluating rooms, creating and placing signs, tour
arrangements (if applicable), assisting with travel arrangements,
assisting teams to and from the game area, reserving blocks of hotel
rooms, helping with publicity, providing information on nearby
restaurants and attractions, setting up the game rooms and computer
equipment, supplying moderators and scorekeepers, and other tasks
necessary to the running of a smooth tournament.

If you are interested in submitting a bid and have additional
questions, do not hesitate to contact NAQT at naqt_at_....
