Go to the National Geographic website and practice on the tests at the site. 2. Study atlases thoroughly, becoming familiar with countries, capitals, etc. 3. Keep up with current events by reading your newspaper and a current events magazine like World magazine, Time, etc. Our sons enjoy watching The News Hour with Jim Lehrer on PBS as well. 4. Attend all the practices where questions asked in the past are read. And watch past national competitions. Besides these things, it really helps if your son just enjoys reading books in the library about other countries. It seems like every week our sons have 10 new books from the library, in addition to the books in their core home school curriculum (www.puritans.net). Obviously, the broader the knowledge, the better chance that at least an educated guess can be made, if not knowing the answer. - Parnell McCarter Grand Rapids, MI
