Directions

Sorry to post this here, but I've been having a couple of problems
with bouncing e-mails to those coming to the Chicago events.

Ok all,

Looks like we'll have 11 teams, unless anyone adds or drops
(Directions are at the bottom). Oh Eric Hillemann and Matt
Cvijanovich, thanks but I do not need that extra buzzer both of you
inquired about.

Plan on being at the tournament sight at 9 if you can. I intend to
start matches at 9:30, and you will forfeit your first round match if
you are not there by 9:40. On that note, if anyone desperately needs
the first round bye, let me know.

Also, I hate to add this, but I'll have to insist this year that
everyone pay before they are allowed to play. I've had problems with
two separate individuals in the last couple of years.

For those who asked, Science Masters is a tournament of all science
packets for two-person teams. At this point, I know there are some
interested parties, but am not sure as to the extent. I have three
volunteers to help out, and here's what I'm going to do. Since, I
won't be able to be there - I am going to have all the packets
prepared and have them ready to be used. Since I don't have an exact
field, and probably won't till the day off, when more people might
join or drop, I'll leave the format to be decided to those who are
going to run it, which will also be determined at the tournament
site. With such a small group, this should take all of five minutes.

As for singles on Sunday - that will be run by Ed Cohn and Susan
Ferrarri and the format will be similar to year's past. I have no
guarantee as to how many prizes there will be, but I will provide
some myself if need be.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions about these two
tournaments, or if you know for sure if you're playing in the Science
tournament so at least I'll have a better idea.

Directions:

_______________________________________________
>From the NORTH (90/94):
Take the Kennedy Expressway (90/94 East) to I-55 East
(direction "Lake
Shore
Drive"). At the end of 55, exit right on to Lake Shore Drive South.
Get
off
at 57th Drive. Go through 2 lights & then take the next right,
towards
the
Midway Plaisance. (It's a turnoff just after the museum ends on your
left-
don't miss it!) Follow "Midway Plaisance" directions below.
_______________________________________________
>From the WEST
Take I-88 East. Follow I-88 until you get to I-290 (Eisenhower expy.)
Take
I-290 to 90/94 East (Dan Ryan expy). Get off (appx 1 mile) at I-55
East,
towards Lake Shore Drive. At the end of 55, exit right onto Lake
Shore
Drive
South. Get off at 57th Drive. Go through 2 lights & then take the next
right, towards the Midway Plaisance. (It's a turnoff just after the
museum
ends on your left- don't miss it!) Follow "Midway Plaisance"
directions
below.
_______________________________________________
>From the SOUTH (I-57):
Take 57 to 94 North (Dan Ryan). Get off of the Dan Ryan at Garfield
Blvd
(55th St.) and take a right. Follow 55th St. straight into the park
(~1
mi).
At the 55th St/Midway Plaisance fork (a little ways after the big
poolhouse
on your right), bear right, towards the Midway. (Make sure that you
stay on
the road until you see the sign for the fork pointing to "Midway
Plaisance;"
an earlier right turn will put you in unhappy places.) Follow this
road
around the park turning left at the end onto the Midway Plaisance -
Woodlawn
Ave is the second set of lights on the Midway. Take a left on
Woodlawn., and
then your next left on 59th St. Take a left on 59th St. and park on
the
street between University (the next street west) and Ellis (the
following
street). If there are no spots available there, parking is available
at
a
small lot on Woodlawn on the right just after 59th St. (I'm not sure
if
they
enforce the lot meters on Saturdays.)

(The Garfield does not go through a great neighborhood. If you have
qualms
about this, feel free to stay on 90/94 until you get to I-55 and
follow
directions above. This will add a good 25-40min or more onto your
travel
time, though.)
_______________________________________________
>From the EAST:
Take Indiana Toll Road to I-90 (Chicago Skyway). (If you miss the I-
90
exit,
you can follow 80/94 to 57N, below.) Go over the Skyway, and get off
on
the
Stony Island exit. Go straight until you get just past 60th st, (do
not
bear
off to the right towards lake shore) and take a left onto the Midway
Plaisance. Follow Midway directions, below.
_______________________________________________
FROM THE MIDWAY PLAISANCE-
Go under the railroad bridge which says University of Chicago. Go
through
one set of lights, and take a right at the next set (Woodlawn). Take
your
first left onto 59th St. and park on the street between University
(the
next
street west) and Ellis (the following street). If there are no spots
available there, parking is available at a small lot on Woodlawn on
the
right just after 59th St. (I'm not sure if they enforce the lot
meters
on
Saturdays. If you'er not driving a rental car, they won't bill you
until you
have 10 tix, though, so you should be OK regardless.) Hopefully there
will
be parking on 59th (there always is) and you won't have to worry
about
the
lot.
_______________________________________________
TO GET TO THE TOURNAMENT SITE from parking spots: From 59th St, there
is an
archway between two buildings close to the corner of 59th and Ellis.
Go
through it and keep walking straight along the path. Cobb will be on
your
left as you enter the second open quad area. From the visitors' lot,
cross
woodlawn and walk right to 58th St. Take a left on 58th & follow it
to
the
main quads. Cobb Hall is at the "top" of the traffic circle, just to
the
left of the drab Admin building. (I will try to put up some signs.)
