Talk:1995 ACF Nationals

I found a directory with stats here, but I'm having trouble making sense of them. The prelim stats rank everyone after round 13, the playoff stats have additional stats after 11 rounds...could that possibly be right? 24 rounds of quizbowl? It looks like it's possible, because all of the playoff brackets list what appear to be wins/losses/byes, and the non-winner playoff brackets list 3, 4, or even 5 playoff byes. Based on the packets listed in the stats there adding up to 24, it definitely looks like there were 24 rounds used. You are seeing correctly! It might be worth checking the Yahoo usergroup archive around this time to verify, though the only version that I can find online is too full of spam to be useful. Chris Chiego

The 1995 and 1996 tournaments definitely used a Friday night + all-day Saturday format that knocked out 6 to 8 rounds on Friday evening. Even with the somewhat shorter questions of the time, it's still pretty impressive to do another 18 rounds on Saturday, though I think standards for reading may have been a little higher since there were so many timed tournaments. It's also possible that the tournament simply ended at 10 pm or so and people accepted that.

By 2000 (or 1999?) Nationals was Saturday/Sunday and in 2000 or 2001 it became Saturday-only, returning to a Saturday/Sunday format starting in 2009. I don't immediately know which days of the weekend were used at the 1997 through 1999 events but this can probably be determined from a careful reading of the stats pages and contemporary posts.
