High School Career

2019-2020

Eli played on Smithville's B team for his freshman year, attending one varsity tournament.

2020-2021

Following the departure of most of Smithville's varsity members, Eli was named a varsity starter going into his sophomore year. He emerged as a star, leading Smithville to a conference title, a district title and a second-place finish at MSHSAA State.

2021-2022

Eli's junior year was full of continual developments. He helped Smithville to win the MCC-Maple Woods trivia contest for the first time in school history after coming up short multiple years in a row. At the MOQBA Fall Championship, he finished 14th in the state (falling just short of his first MOQBA medal), helping Smithville to finish 15th in the state. He followed that performance with a 6th place finish at the MOQBA Spring Championships later that year, winning his first medal at MOQBA competition and helping Smithville finish 13th. After winning another conference title and district title, Eli and the Warriors finished third at 2022 that year. For his accomplishments that year, Eli was named as an All-State honorable mention by MOQBA.

2022-2023

After the departure of several key players during the 2 state runs, Eli aimed to continue the legacy of the team. He finished in 12th place at the MOQBA Fall Championship that year, helping Smithville finish 9th and in the top 10 for the first time in school history. This was later improved upon as he finished in 16th at the MOQBA Spring Championships later that year, but helping to lead Smithville to an 8th-place finish. He also stepped in as captain during the absence of Nate Kershaw, leading the Warriors to a second-place finish at the North Kansas City Varsity Invitational and an eighth-place finish at the aforementioned MOQBA Spring Qualifiers.

College Career

Eli stated that he would be attending Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri starting in the fall of 2023, continuing his quiz bowl career. This has not come to fruition, as he attended two practices and then quit the team.
