Matthew Lafer is a former talented player for Michigan who now plays open events, often times with Ryan Westbrook. Matt won Chicago Open 2006 and was a runner-up in 2007. Due to having played with a massive number of different players over the years (143+ as of May 2025), he is the namesake of the Lafer number, a measurement of the degrees of separation in Quiz Bowl.
