White Station High School is a public school in Memphis, TN that competes in both the local WREG Knowledge Bowl TV tournament and the larger quiz bowl circuit in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
History
Early 2000s
White Station had a long tradition of Knowledge Bowl success and sporadic attendance at other tournaments in the Mid-South region. A White Station team placed 2nd at Vanderbilt's 1994 ABC. Later editions of the team included a 3rd place finish at the 2003 University of Memphis Tiger Academic Classic and a 1st place finish at the 2004 AKT at Munford over rival Lausanne. The only known expedition out of the Memphis area at this time was to the 30th ABC at Vanderbilt in 2005.
Late 2000s
An alleged on-air curse resulted in disqualification from the Knowledge Bowl TV tournament for a year sometime in the late 2000s.
Early 2010s
New coaches as well as a commitment to travel helped lead to a revival of interest in reaching beyond Knowledge Bowl for competitions. Led by Zach Billett, White Station recorded the highest national finish by a West TN team at nationals at the 2014 HSNCT and reached 130th in the 2013-14 HSQBRank along with winning the 2013-2014 Knowledge Bowl TV tournament. White Station has also hosted the first pyramidal tournaments in West TN in nearly a decade with one usually taking place in the Fall and another in the Spring.
