Belleville East High School is located in Belleville, Illinois, and is part of the Belleville Township High School District 201. The Lancers' Scholar Bowl team is currently coached by David Appel and the JV team is coached by Lauren Sexauer. East has been one of the top programs in Southwestern Illinois since the 2022–23 season, along with rival schools O'Fallon, Mascoutah, Metro-East Lutheran. The team competes in the Metro-East Quad League (MEQL), the Illinois Masonic Academic Bowl, and Scholastic Hi-Q. East was one of the "Big 4" during the 2023-2024 MEQL Season.
