Ted Harrison

Ted Harrison is an undergraduate Maths student at the University of Edinburgh, and hails from Rewe, near Exeter, Devon. Ted has been playing quizbowl for Edinburgh since joining in 2024, and currently serves as Edinburgh University Quiz Society’s Buzzer Officer.

Ted is known for his love of science questions, Emily Dickinson, and musicals content.

Quizbowl career

Ted’s first tournament was 2024’s ACF Fall, where he played on Edinburgh C. At British Novice, he played on Edinburgh B with Fred Whibley and Gabrielle Collins, amassing an impressive 7 first buzzes.

With Lovel Hearn, Daniel Bloom and David Allen, all of whom had only started quizbowl at the same time as him, he formed an Edinburgh team for PLAYTIME!, attaining 20 PPG.

Whilst playing for Edinburgh B with Fred Whibley and Pen Hughes, Ted was the sixth-highest scorer at 2025 Spring Novice, scoring over 42 PPG. He joined Daniel and Lovel during an exhibition final against York. That tournament would be the final novice competition played by any of those three players.

Ted was the second-highest scorer at 2025 VAULT, playing for Edinburgh Brigade with Fred, Harry Sexton and Leona Barker, and also played with Lovel, Daniel and Harry (Edinburgh B) at MRNA IV. With David, Daniel and Pen, he played both 2025 Consensus’s UK summer mirror and SOTON TRASH (under the team name “The Truth is a Lemon Meringue”). He rejoined David Allen, as well as Rayhana Amjad and Thomas Popham, to form Edinburgh A at 2025 ACF Winter.

Notable moments

At PLAYTIME!, during a VFA bonus set to which the team didn’t know the answer, Ted suggested that the question may relate to Futurism, and Lovel suggested that it may be a “manifesto”. Hence, despite none of the team ever having heard of the Futurist Manifesto, Ted and Lovel were able to score the 10 points on that question. At 2025 Spring Novice, during a tossup on Nigeria, Ted negged with “Poland” due to thinking that Wole Soyinka had a Polish surname.
