Season

In spite of the graduation of all the starting players on the 2002 team, the 2003 squad was not outdone by its predecessor. Indeed, the 2003 team established an impressive series of program records. With thirteen firsts and five seconds in eighteen competitions, the team became the first in program history to reach the finals in every tournament in which it appeared. Competing in eight different states, the 2003 team has become the first squad to win at least one tournament in every state in which it has played. In October, the team took the program to the milestone of 100 varsity tournament championships. In February, the team took the program to the milestone of 1,700 varsity game victories. With a cumulative record of 155-9, the team has set a new program record for winning percentage at .945. Finally, with its victory in the 2003 Michigan Class A State Championship Tournament in April, the team has given the program its first “threepeat” of state titles. With the addition of Jason Jones to the coaching staff and a very good 2003 junior varsity team, Coach Weinberg’s program looks to the future with a confidence established by nearly two decades of success.
