Bard High School Early College Manhattan, also known as BHSEC Manhattan, or simply Bard, is a public high school located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The school, with a student body of around 600, is a joint partnership between the New York City Department of Education and Bard College. Freshman and Sophomore years consist of accelerated high school classes, and Junior and Senior years (aka Year 1 and Year 2, respectively) constitute the college program, which is made up of college classes taken for college credit. Upon graduating, students receive both a High School Diploma from the DOE and an Associates Degree from Bard College. The school is known for its strong humanities program, ultimate frisbee team, and for being pretty ok, I guess.

History

Bard Quizbowl was founded in very late 2016 by Maximilian Shatan, who had heard about quizbowl through a friend. Quickly, a group of like-minded individuals, foremost among them Vice-Captains Lev Bernstein and Christopher Stauffer, was cobbled together, and the team was born. The team was only active in the 2016-2017 season from February-April, but managed to do decently at the three tournaments they attended.
