The Bay Area Academic League (BAAL) is a Quiz Bowl organization founded by [[Gaius Stern]] that runs competitions in the San Francisco Bay Area. In previous years, teams that competed on the Quiz Kids Bay Area TV show qualified by playing at fall BAAL events. Many BAAL events have been run using the following format: Bonuses are only read for questions 11, 12, 23, and 24, and if a team gets 15 on the tossup. All 2012-2013 BAAL events have been run with 20 tossups/ 20 bonuses (with two events using 5 point bounce-back bonuses).
