During her tenure Coach Bratcher accumulated over 350 victories, all over .500, culminating in an appearance in the State championship in 2002. Following Bratcher's retirement, the team picked up where it had left off by returning to the State championship in 2004 under Coach Mary Jo Osborn. The team remained strong for the next decade, seeing a resurgence in the mid-2010's. Local development in the area has seen Carterville's enrollment grow, promoting the Lions to Class 2A in 2015, where they have resided since.

Carterville High School is a small public school in Carterville, Illinois located in southern Illinois near Carbondale. It competes in Class AA, the "large school" division, of the Illinois High School Association's State Championship series. The Lions also compete in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference & have been participants on WSIU's Hi-Q.
