Van Dyke is well-renowned for his excellent knowledge of most things European, as well as Art and Classical Music. For these reasons, his scores were considerably higher in [[NAQT]] and [[HSAPQ]]-question formats, since [[VHSL]] questions used to include only 1 art or 1 classical music question per match. He was a multiple-time top ten scorer at tournaments, and he also won Auburn High School's neg prize at the first annual EQUINE.
