A juniorbird tournament is a tournament designed for novice players, typically with easier questions and stringent eligibility restrictions. In general, all freshmen and sophomores are eligible, and older students can play with the permission of the tournament director; however, the admission of a player with more than two years of experience is rare. There are only minor, if any, differences between a juniorbird tournament and a novice tournament; however, in the past, tournaments run on NAQT IS questions were more likely to call themselves "juniorbird" while ACF-style tournaments with similar eligibility requirements were more likely to call themselves "novice".
