Mark Whipple was a physics and astronomy teacher at Walter Johnson and the longtime coach of its quizbowl ("It's Academic") team until 2010, when Stuart Safford replaced him.
For about 20 years, Whipple organized the Montgomery County Academic Beltway League, a half-season of after-school weekday tournaments that most of the county's high schools participated in. It used old Quizmaster Challenge speedcheck questions written by Kevin Keegan.
