Sam Houston State is a public university located in Huntsville, Texas, about 70 miles north of Houston on I-45. The university hosted the Sam Houston State University Academic Challenge state championship from 1992 to 2011 as well as other invitationals during the year. Despite SHS's active involvement in hosting events, there are no records of there ever being a quizbowl or College Bowl playing club at any time.
