John del Puerto joined Salem Academy’s quiz bowl team at the beginning of his freshman year in 2019, after success in his school’s middle school trivia competitions, advancing to state championships in the National Geographic Bee in the sixth grade.

After initially competing with the B Team, del Puerto quickly rose the ranks to compete in his first A team berth in early 2020.
