Matthew played Knowledge Bowl, which is a better format than the wiki gives it credit for, during his career at JFK High School in Burien, WA, and was captain of the state-winning team in 2009. He is now a freshman at UChicago, where he is happy if he answers 2 questions per practice.
He is also a proponent of middle school Knowledge Bowl, improved with pyramidal questions, in the Seattle Area.
