2021 HSNCT edits

These edits introduced a number of incorrect claims:

  • The reduction in preliminary games from 10 to 8 was not due to the small field. I don't think NAQT has ever explicitly addressed this publicly, but it was due to online quizbowl taking longer and being more fatiguing than in-person quizbowl (so we couldn't reasonably add more byes), lack of enough staff to conduct the tournament without byes (or, if you prefer, prioritizing field expansion over reducing byes, which is sort of the opposite of what you said), and the belief that if we put additional preliminary games on Sunday morning a lot of teams probably wouldn't show up.
  • The entry fee was not "raised" to $650. The 2020 HSNCT entry fee was $695, and the 2019 HSNCT entry fee was $675, so the 2021 HSNCT entry fee was in fact lower. Furthermore, the entry fee was never stated as being "to compensate for loss of revenue during the pandemic" by anyone with official knowledge or the ability to make statements on NAQT's behalf; it was merely speculated so.
  • "The 2021 HSNCT was the first-ever good quizbowl national championship to be hosted online" is false; the 2021 CCCT was the first mainstream national championship hosted online (I do not use the term "good quizbowl").
  • "Barrington's championship was the first-ever national title won by an Illinois high school (not counting NASAT)." is false and weird. The first national title won by an Illinois high school was Macomb's Small School championship at the 2013 HSNCT; the first overall national title won by an Illinois high school was Westmont's victory at the 2021 SSNCT (Traditional Public Schools Division). The weird part is "(not counting NASAT)"; none of the Illinois NASAT victories was by players from "an Illinois high school" (rather, "a mix of Illinois high schools"), and if you want to address the matter of mixed-school teams, you should also account for Team Illinois' victories at the 2007 and 2008 Panasonic tournaments.
  • "The Barrington–Uni Lab final was the first-ever national final between two Illinois high schools" is false. The 2021 SSNCT (Traditional Public Schools Division) final was Macomb vs. Westmont.
