Teams from 40 states, DC, and two territories participated from June 18 to June 20.
This was the last tournament to be run as the National Tournament of Academic Excellence; it became the Panasonic Academic Challenge starting in 1992.
The third-place team got $500 scholarships and gold rings. All-America Team members received $2000 scholarships.
