Syra-quiz was a proto-quizbowl event held at Syracuse University for seven years in the 1950s. It was inspired by a series of appearances Syracuse teams had made on the radio version of College Bowl. The competition was an intramural event and commonly pitted fraternities and residence halls against one another. Syra-quiz may be the earliest collegiate-level quizbowl-like game besides College Bowl, a title currently held by the Southeastern Invitational. It was held inside Hendricks Chapel and broadcast locally on WAER radio.
