Re: Quiz Bowl Upsets

I hate to bring in the flip side of the GW upset
bug, but I remember Dave Vacca telling me about the
infamous Georgetown Cup I, where the winless American
University II team upset top-seeded GW in the first round of
the playoffs, in a tournament where every team made
the playoffs.

[WARNING: BEGIN A LITTLE
SHAMELESS SELF-AGGRANDIZEMENT]: As for Penn Bowl, in 1995 I
played on the Ramesh-led Maryland C team that beat a
young Andrew Yaphe-led Virginia team to make the
playoffs, upset undefeated BYU in the quarters by 5, and
then upset the Jeff Johnson-led Harvard team (a team
that beat us by 290 in the prelims) in the semis. We
finally bowed out to Chicago A in the finals, but I still
remember the chants of "Raaahm-eesh,
Raaahm-eesh".

Probably the only time I'll ever make the Penn Bowl
playoffs, so I remember it well [END S-A]
