Re: Why don't HS teams run comps?

Why don't Texas HS qb teams sponsor meets?
That's
a question that can be extended to most schools
in
general, and the usual answer that applies is simply:
1)
lack of experience [where to get questions, where
to
get buzzer systems, how to plan], 2) lack of
time
[classwork, personal life, practice with team], or 3) lack
of
support [money, administration, other
coaches].

I
don't recall the survey done by the Illinois
Scholastic
Bowl Coaches Association, but each state is
different.
There are more comps organized by HS teams in SC,
GA,
VA, MD, IL than there are in AZ, CO, IN, TX, etc.
It
really depends on a state-by-state basis, not to
mention
a case-by-case basis. Of course, you can also
see
that the more competitive a state is, the
more
tournaments are usually run there. And of course, the
more
competitive a program is, the more likely that program
is
willing to run their own competition so that they
could
attend other competitions... even travel to
really
well-known tough tournaments.
