Re: Does single elimination suck?

I just realized there may be a paradox with my
last sentence compared to the rest of the message. The
first part of the message refers to a practice that
developed because funding for education in Illinois is
based to a large extent on property taxes. Public
support for education is widely divergent, and the north
shore Chicago suburbs generally have the lion's share
of the funding (think Montgomery Blair in MD, Irmo
and James Island in SC, and Bellaire in TX) and in
many cases strong public support. Thus, many smaller
schools simply can't compete (with some very notable
exceptions) because they don't have the resources. The
"whining losers" comment was in reference to several teams
within the state who rarely participate in tournaments,
have a coach who collects a stipend but does little,
and then whines when they meet some of our state's
top teams.
