<<SE tournaments are a thorn in the side to
schools on limited budgets, so we (like many colleges and
universities, I'm sure) have to be really choosy about where
and when we travel. (I can't believe more of you
aren't complaining about THAT.)>>
The
reason we're not complaining is that, at the college
level, I am not aware of any tournaments currently run
in single-elim format.

This is one of the main reasons why, when I took over
as head of Yale's team, I switched the Bulldog HS
tournament from double-elim (which it had been for its first
FOUR years) to pooled round-robin. That year, we went
from 29 teams to 44 (and began the tradition of large
numbers of out-of-state teams :).
