Salute to Dorothy Morisch, UTC Stats Goddess

In a few minutes I'll be posting results from both of UTC's
tournaments from this past weekend. And as always, I'll include props
for those who made it possible -- officials, question authors, tech
crew, and restaurateurs. But this time around I felt it best to post
some gratitude all by itself.

This weekend marked the farewell appearance of UTC's own stats
goddess, Dorothy Morisch. Dorothy and her husband Russ are returning
to the Seattle area, from whence they came four years ago. (BTW,
she'll be attending the U. of Washington. Someone from the UW QB
program, e-mail me at steinhic at bellsouth dot net -- we'll talk.)

Beginning with the Moon Pie Classic in April 1999, Dorothy kept stats
for us in *47* straight tournaments -- 21 collegiate, 8 high school, 2
open academic, and 16 trash. Besides handling stats, she routinely
took care of other tournament details such as packet collation,
question sales, and holding down the fort while the TD went out for
lunch with the gang. For someone who never actually played the game,
she became quite the expert on quizbowl rules, procedures, schedules,
and other logistics. She also made Russ run errands for us, haul
boxes of questions back and forth, and sometimes even watch my kids on
tournament days. How devoted a volunteer was she? She and Russ
delayed their trek west for two days to make sure we had the weekend
covered.

Dorothy has been a true friend and a great asset to UTC quizbowl. We
cannot thank her enough, and while we'll have stats at future
tournaments, in lieu of a jersey number, the title of stats goddess is
officially retired. (Wally Edmondson, already UTC's setup crew chief,
will henceforth take on a second title -- stats demigod.)
