RESULTS: David Scott Hamilton Invitational Tournament VI

Seven teams of first and second year players came to cloudy College
Park to do academic battle at David Scott Hamilton Invitational
Tournament VI on Saturday, March 1st. DSHIT is the University of
Maryland's annual spring junior bird tournament.

Congratulations to Cornell University, whose team traveled the
farthest and walked away with the first place trophy after an 11-1
day. Kudos also to Leo Wolpert of Michigan, who won a hat trick of
prizes: second place trophy, top scoring prize (a golden pin-on
medal) and the neg prize, a Cricket figure from the Pinoccio movie
that Chris had gotten at lunch as part of his McDonald's Happy Meal.
The second and third leading scorers were Scott Francis of Cornell
and Sandeep Vaheesan of Maryland, respectively.

The teams played a single round robin, then were divided into a top
four and bottom three. Cornell (6-0) and Michigan (5-1) were placed
into the top bracket while Rutgers (1-5) and Delaware (0-6) qualified
for the bottom bracket. Maryland, Swarthmore and Virginia were tied
in a circle of death at 3-3 after the round robin. Point differential
head-to-head was used to break the circle. Maryland became the 3 team
with a +95 differential. Swarthmore was -30 and Virginia was -95,
relegating them to the lower division. Each team played a double
round robin within its division. This division accounts for
Virginia's better overall record than Swarthmore and Maryland.
