NATSSO Update

It's that time again, for another North Avenue Trade School Summer
Open update. As of right now there are nine teams I've heard of who
plan on attending. That means nineround robin rounds, which I have
decided (and I'm sure others will agree) to be not enough quizbowl.
So right now the playoff is looking like three brackets of three with
double elimination and byes. This means (unless I'm wrong, which is
always a distinct possibility) that a maximum of five playoff rounds
could be played, thus bringing the maximum round total up to 14. This
is all subject to change if I figure out something better or if other
teams sign on/drop out.

Now for the field:
* denotes packet received
~ denotes bringing buzzer
+ denotes moderator discount

Screaming Monkey Stick (Athens State et al.) *
Saurabh et al. * ~
GT Alums * + ~
North Florida
Raj Dhuwalia et al. *
Valencia CC et al. *
Seth Kendall
Kevin Comer et al.
Bill Bixby's Big-Ass Communist 18-Wheeler *~

For those of you keeping count, that's three buzzer systems (two full
functioning with all buzzers working) for a tournament that will for
the first nine rounds need four buzzer systems. That means we need
two more buzzer systems. Those of you holding out in the field,
please let me know if you will have buzzers or not. If you will not
have buzzers also let me know. Also, if anybody out there has a
better suggestion on how to extend the length of the tournament and
avoid this somewhat garbled and haphazard attempt at a playoff
system, please feel free to suggest.

Also, as the playoff system stands, I'm going to be needing to re-
issue my previously withdrawn call for freelance packets. If anybody
out there is willing to submit a packet following the guidelines I
posted earlier, please let me know. You will be making my life much
easier. I'm willing to send you a free copy of the tournament or
perhaps negotiate something out.

Many thanks,
Stephen Webb
