If he wants to post on here, let him. What do you think this is for? I guess you think it's for debating the same stupid things every six months. I agree that Dan's message really wasn't necessary, and if constructive, a private message to the person from UCSD would have probably made more sense. Yet what's the deal with this statement?: I'm ashamed to be > from the mid-atlantic. Since when does Dan or anyone else speak for an entire region? People on this board (and I'm sure I've done it a few times myself) seem to constantly lump people into regions, for no real purpose. Yeah, I know that quizbowl and the country as a whole is divided into geographic areas, and that sectionals/regionals are held in specific parts of the country (and Canada) out of convenience. In reality, though, any such designation is quite arbitrary. You can compartmentalize quizbowl into individuals, teams, schools, regions, nations, or whatever you want. I just don't see the point of bashing regions. When all is said and done, the tournaments that matter the most are the nationals. Also, regions are made up of schools, teams, and individuals with vastly different personalities, abilities, and levels of commitment to quizbowl. I've lived in the Mid-Atlantic all my life. Over the number of years that I have been involved with quizbowl, the region has cycled between strong and weak in its abilities and levels of commitment. I have met a few asses (and on occasion have acted like one myself :- P), but I also have met many great people in this area and have made quite a few friends. I'm sure most or all of the regions are like that, and I think any such stereotyping of diverse blocs of people and schools is quite silly. -Adam
